Hello and welcome to Tiger International Limited. Established in 2011, we have travelled the world sourcing and shipping steel scrap metal to our buyers in Asia. Now we trade from various countries, including Bangladesh, India, Kuwait, South Korea, Taiwan & Pakistan.
In today’s dynamic and ever-growing scrap metal industry, many different grades and types of recyclable scrap metal now exist, which help smelters and steel mills receive scrap metal which fits their exact production requirements.
Metal is present everywhere in modern living. It’s in our houses, cars, toys, phones and the pillar of any construction project. Due to its necessity and structure, metal is a highly recyclable material. This is the main purpose of scrap metal, to be recycled and used to create new metal products. As a result, it is a vital industrial raw material, used in the manufacturing of metal products by foundries, steel mills, and smelters worldwide.
Scrap steel metal is probably the most recycled metal in the world and by recycling it also has a very positive environmental impact. Steel manufacturers who don’t use steel scrap metal in their melting process, have to use iron ore, which via the mining and transportation has a negative environmental impact which we will look at in a future blog.
Apart from the environmental benefits of recycling scrap metal for steel manufacturers, there can also be a cost benefit. Recycling one tonne of steel scrap metal saves 1,136 kg of iron ore, 454 kg of coal and 18 kg of limestone. Scrap steel needs a lower temperature than iron ore to melt, reducing financial costs to operate a steel mill and its environmental impact.
Usually, steel manufactures who use scrap steel operate electric arc furnaces. By using electricity, these furnaces melt steel scrap into molten liquid. It is estimated that around 25% of the worlds total steel is manufactured this way. The recycled steel scrap can be modified into almost any shape, hardness and strength, allowing manufacturers to create endless variations of finished steel products.
Globally the world wide scrap metal recycling industry is estimated to be valued at around $280 billion, and growing year on year. By 2024 analysts predict it will reach $340 billion. With the growing demand of steel products globally, and with our customer base in Asia, we expect that Tiger International will continue to increase its shipments of steel scrap metal cargoes to its customers.
